RE: Finding decent Motor Home Service

If there is a good service center in the southwest, I would sure like to know about it.

RE: HDTV Upgrade

We removed the TV and enclosure from the overhead, and built a 42' plasma into the desk on passenger side, with a motorized lift. Have Blu ray and Dish HD. Don't quite know how to post pics, but can if some one tells how...

Full timers insurance

Time for us to renew our insurance. Anyone with recent experiences? Also, have any of you been asked to have an appraisal of your MH?

RE: Love it or Hate it?

Bought our used, so expected to replace tires and catch up on some maintenance. Lots of upgrades and personalizing. It now feels like home, which, of course, it is. LOVE OUR COUNTRY COACH!

RE: Pay For Hours Worked?

As long as folks will work for their sites, CG's will continue to refuse pay. Guess we just don't understand why someone would work 20 or more hours per week for a FHU campsite. Your time is easily worth $8 an hour. So that means your site is costing you $640 per month. Even if you don't "need the money", why work free? Or have it actually cost you to be there? Just a thought.

RE: What could be better about your Motorhome??

We love our Country Coach. Would have loved a mid entry. We have wire chases, and they have made upgrades easy. Sink covers are fine...use them often to expand counter space. And I am a real chef. Tile floors, or wood, throughout. Make carpeting the option. A very good and complete set of drawings (plumbing, air sytems, electrical) would be awesome. Easy to pop out screens; for cleaning. ONE 12v BULB TYPE, not 2 or 3 esoteric 1076, 1141, etc. Tank sensors that work. Lose electric steps, and have steps integrated in house (a la most buses). Macerator toilets standard. And if this is a wish list, how about LCD windshield and windows, to go from clear to tinted to totally opaque.

RE: Coffee pots!

We use a Cuisinart 10 cup model, with a thermal carafe. It grinds the beans and makes a great cup o' joe! Stores under sink when traveling. Clean up can be a bit messy, but having fresh ground coffee in a thermal carfe to sit outside with us is priceless.

We are in WYS now. RedRock RV in Island Park Idaho is awesome. The Grizzly in West is expensive, but nice and new.

We use an external protector, but have frequently seen high voltages in Mexico. Would love an autoformer that drops voltage to a safe level

RE: Country Coach Electrical Gremlin

I am assuming you have a voltmeter as a test tool, and you are reading from ac outlets in the coach. What do you read when just inverting, without the genny or shore power? Have you had any problems with the main breaker? The shore guard unit behind the main breaker panel can cause some weird problems. If you are reading 130 with no external power, then the inverter is probably the culprit. We changed ours to a new Xantrex with pure sine wave. And our shore guard burned and melted, I removed it, and have not replaced it, but won't plug in any where without the external protection. Another place to check is behind the fridge, at the access plate outside. There is a 120v outlet for the fridge.

RE: Grand Canyon

The road (64) is fairly flat. Stay at the Canyon campgrounds, in the NP. Be very careful on 64; its a very dangerous road. Use your headlights and watch for cars passing at high speed. I have traveled that road hundreds of times, animals may also dart out. If you want a pace to stay off the 40, between Vegas and Williams, then try Blake RV Ranch, about 12 miles east of Kingman. And Laughlin/ Bullhead City will give you more bang for the buck than Vegas; try Silver View Rv Resort in Bullhead.

RE: RV vs Hotel

Made the trip from Vegas to West Yellowstone 10 days ago. Filled up in Searchlight (SE of Vegas). Total fuel: $482.00. We are seeing motel prices here as low as $90.00. (of course we are in the MH). Think that should change the OP's numbers, but the RV is probably still just a bit cheaper.

RE: LP gas while in motion...

The bottom line is that everybody does it (that is, leave the gas on while driving) but the safety experts will all tell you to turn it off. It's a bit like insurance, it doesn't really matter until something goes wrong.
We don't. Don't think its a good idea to have open flame while you are moving. Our fridge is pretty well insulated, and we rarely go more than 4 or 5 hours traveling. When its real hot outside, we run the genny for roof air and let the fridge use the power from that.

RE: Electric or Propane

I think electric is more efficient, for most things, and thus, cheaper. But we prefer the furnace for heat, over the heat pumps.

RE: Want to save $1.30 on a gallon of diesel fuel?

Planes are slowing air speed as well.
I am wondering if the time difference between 55 and 65 or even 75 is really as much as the math would indicate. Like many newer cars the Blazer computer will give you your average speed and I have noticed it is hard to get it to read within 5-10 of the speed I am shooting for and think I am making. 10 miles of 55 MPH construction with a flagman from time to time stopping traffic, an accident where all lanes are open but people are staring like crazy, a major rain storm knocking out visibility, etc, etc.
I think I will pay closer attention to the cruise setting vs average speed. If one could go from 6 MPG to 8 MPG you could even reduce your number of fuel stops on the long fast runs and that could save time. I have noticed MH fuel stops really seem to take a lot of time vs. for the car. Sometimes I pass up several station just because of access in or back out to the main road. Get a slow pump and it can take a long time to just pump 50 gallons plus you can have to restart 2 times due to using a CC.
Has anyone started gathering this kind of data that at $2 a gallon we just did not think about very much that you can share?
The time difference between 75 mph and 60 mph is 12 seconds per mile. We just went from Bullhead City to West Yellowstone, about $480. At 62 mph. 9+ mpg. I am happy to use a slow pump; you will get more fuel, at least thats the scuttlebutt.
